Convert footnotes to hyperlinks

I have an existing Word document with lots of non-hyperlinked footnotes. ie,
clicking the subscripted number does NOT take you to the footnote.

Is there some way to convert all of these manual footnotes into hyperlinked
footnotes and anchors? Maybe a macro that can do this conversion??

if the footnotes are all done in the same way, then yes, a skilled
programmer might come up with such a macro. But he'd need to see the
file itself.

Often, OCR processes are trying their best to convert a scan into a
document that looks as much alike to the original as possible. They may
be using frames, or tables, or even footer space. And the numbers are
usually

Ultimately, whether it's worth for you to get hold of such a programmer,
or try to learn enough VBA for yourself, or do the thing manually (copy
the "footnote text", then go to the corresponding reference number,
delete it, insert a new footnote there and paste the old text), depends
on your resources (and your definition of "lots").
