Control XP remotely over the phone?

I'm going away to my parents' house in the country for a few days, and I
want be able to access my home PC while I'm gone. My home PC has WinXP
Pro. I'm taking my laptop - which also has XP Pro - to my parents'.

Each computer has a phone modem. Will there be a way for me to connect to
my home PC from the laptop over the phone and control the PC from my
parents' house? Nobody will be near my home PC while I'm gone.

I'm presuming that I would use either Remote Assistance or Remote Desktop,
but am not sure which one, or exactly how I would go about doing this. Any
info would be appreciated. TIA!

Test it before you leave. If your home pc is behind a router, make sure you
setup port forwarding to the pc for port 3389, or you won't be able to
connect to it from outside the router.

Routers are for Intermet access! He is going to use modem to modem for the
Remote Desktop.


You need to set up RAS connection.

Be warned: Remote Desktop will be fery slow, modem to modem!
