Control Panel

Chris

Has anyone else experienced problems with Control Panel? Each time I click
on Control Panel, I get an error and Windows tells me that Explorer has to
restart (and it does).

My thanks in advance.

Thank you for your reply. It just started a day or so ago. Only Control
Panel seems to be affected. The message in the event log (application) is
as follows...

Faulting application Explorer.EXE, version 6.0.6000.16549, time stamp
0x46d230c5, faulting module kernel32.dll, version 6.0.6000.16386, time stamp
0x4549bd80, exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x000443b7, process id
0x170, application start time 0x01c893e830498434.

I have not added anything to my system software/hardware or otherwise in
quite some time (not including Windows Updates which hasn't been much in the
last month...definition updates, etc.). Everything has been running fine up
till now.

Thank you again.

Chris,

Is this a sudden problem, a new problem or an ongoing problem?

Have you recently installed any programs?

What firewall, anti-virus application or security suite is installed?

No anti-virus installed and I use BitDefender when I do. Only Windows
firewall is used and it is on. I use SpyBot Search & Destroy as well as
AdAware as well (ran both). Windows Defender is on too.

I also requested the "hotfix" from MS (KB Article Number: 929637) which they
provided but it did not work : (.

Thank you again.

There are some that cause problems which do not appear immediately.

So How Did I Get Infected Anyway?
For quite a few people it's by installing programs like Messenger Plus,
whose ads for malware don't identify the malware as such and try to convince
you that you owe it to the author. See also:

Don't ever do a "default" install of anything. Always choose Custom and see
what else is being carried along. Don't install any extras you're not sure
of.
