Control Panel

When I view Control Panel it opens then it doesnt respond and I have to use
task manager to get rid of it. Now when I open it I always get anerror
message for my onboard saying its the audio driver is not designed for vista
yet its the one I downloaded from them.

The sound works but I want to be able to access my control panel. Any ideas
?

I'm not sure what audio device you have
I have soundmax onboard audio
and vista installed the lastest driver for it my control panel did work and
all other sounds worked well
However the lastest driver from Soundmax didn't give me audio for DVD
playback or live or recorded tv in media center
I installed the XP driver in compatibility mode for Xp Sp2 and everything
worked well and it seemed to have fixed the problem.
the only issue I have now is that when the pc wakes from sleep there's no
audio at all

I like I said I'm not sure what audio device you have. But it's certainly
worth a try to install the Xp audio driver it might solve you problem. Just
because Vista installed the latest driver during setup doesn't mean it will
work, as I found out.
Another tip is to get into device manager and check in the properties of
your audio device under resources and see if it has any conflicts.

I hope this helps you but without knowing what audio device you have I can't
really say much more.

Audio is ALC850 8 channel CODEC

Will put the AC97 that I downloaded from realtek back in and see what
happens

Great to hear it works again
Once Vista is released and goes on the store shelf, hopefully there will be
updated drivers
and things will get better.
But for now in some cases you have to try to use Xp drivers

I had the same exact issue until I closed the audio driver error box. I
may have checked not to show it again too but don't remember exactly. I
think the open error box is the problem.

My sound has worked on first boot too.
