Control Panel will not remove old version of MS Office

I am currently using MS Office 2003, but I recently discovered I still have
Office 97 on my HD. However, when I tried to remove it using Control Panel,
I was not given the option of Uninstalling the program. Instead, I was
prompted to insert the 97 diskettes so the program could be installed.
Anyone have any suggestions about how I can do a clean uninstall?

I can not offer a non-disk removal, but I did find out that you have to use the exact disk version
used in the installation. I was trying to remove a copy of Office 97 for a lady that was given an
old computer. I have a CD version of Office 97, but that computer had use a set of floppy disks for
installation of 97 and refused to recognize the CD version (It kept asking for floppy disk #1).
Microsoft advice was to remove all folders and all registry entries manually. In this case it was
easier to reformat and reinstall Windows 98 on her computer.

Insert the Office 97 CD when prompted. The uninstall process should complete correctly. If you don't have the source CD, then you may have to try Office 97 uninstaller program from Microsoft. Don't have the exact link now, but you can try this question in the Microsoft Office newsgroups.
