Control panel error

I'm using windows xp. I get this error message when I click on control panel:
"Erroe occured while windows was working with the control panel file
c/windows/system32/netsetup.cpl"
How do I fix this?
I recently installed SP2 service pack.
As a result of this error my network connections are disabled.
Help please.

I have the same error. I've replace the file from the i386 directory and
ran SFC without any errors. No one has posted any other suggestions since
last weekend. Hope someone else jumps in. gm.

First thing I would check is the System Event log for any Red icons
that denote errors. Quickest access to Event viewer is Click Start,
Run (Type) eventvwr.msc (Press Enter). Note any Event ID#'s in
each message and the description.
You can look up Event ID# here:
http://www.eventid.net/
Many times System Event errors are traceable to Services that aren't
running or failing to start.

As to network setup, if you use the "Classic" Start menu, you can
get to Network Connections from the Settings menu. You should be
able to access your Network connectoid from there.

Thanks for the suggestions. I don't have anything that shows up in the
system event log on these messages - red or otherwise. Just for further
info, when we do click on a category, the category will open up like normal
but you will have a series of these error messages to acknowledge (hit OK
cause of problem with netseup.cpl - always the same message). When the
category is finally open, the only thing that is missing is the icons next
to the labels. The labels of the next lower category (like System) is still
there and will open when clicked with maybe a few more of these messages.
appreciate anything you can provide. gm.

I am having the same problem. Microsoft representative suggested to remove
sp2 and reinstall. We also tried reboot in safe mode highlighting last known
good configuration that worked. Still get the error message. Microsoft said
to repair windows xp with bootable windows xp cd and to contact the
manufacturer of my system because a wrong option may crash my harddrive. I'm
hoping someone will find a fix for this problem without having to reinstall
everything. HELP!!!!

From a previous post:

"I also had problems with netsetup.cpl causing error messages when I tried
opening control panel. I just deleted the file from the c:\windows\system32
folder running in safe mode, and all is fine now!"
