A minor, but irritating point.

Using XP Plus, I go to control panel/display/desktop to
choose a background (Red Moon Desert). Desired background
displays and all is well. But after an indeterminate
period (not too long) the screen goes to blue. I have to
go back to desktop to reset, but again it doesn't last
long.

Help, please.

Do you have something installed that rotates the wallpaper? Webshots or
something similar?

No, I don't. The sticking point in this is that this
falls into the "intermittent" category. Just started a
few weeks ago. No new software installed. Ran XP Plus
on "repair" to no avail. I've been using the same desktop
for over a year. As I'm sure you feel, nothing is worse
than a non-replicatable problem.

Thank you for your help. Any further ideas will be
gratefully explored.

What you're describing sounds like a "soft" crash of Explorer. When it
reloads it is not reloading the desktop preferences. Normally these are
retained in XP. I don't know what the ramifications are (or if there any)
if XP Plus is managing/loading the themes. Have you checked in Event Viewer
for errors that occur around the same time that your desktop preferences go
missing?

No. I haven't and I am very grateful for the lead. I
wouldn't have thought of it.

Thank you.
