Control over animated text

I used a standard template & find t's difficult to control applying or
removing animation schemes to text blocks on the slides.
I sure could use some help understanding how Powerpoint applies the
animations to slide enitites & how best to control what get's animated &
what doesn't

An example:
I have a slide title & some bullited new text I added below or an existing
text box from the template. I want to animate the bullited text but not the
title. The animation I'm using is Fade in one by one. Thanks.

GC,
If you use an animation scheme on just one slide, for instance Fade in one
by one, it consist of a title effect and an effect on the bulleted list.
Just go to the custom animation task pane and delete the effect on the
title. Some schemes only apply an effect on the title, others also apply an
effect on the bulleted list and yet others also apply a slide transition
effect. You can see this is you hover over the thumbnail, a yellow screentip
will appear stating what effect the animation includes.
If you apply an animation scheme to all the slides the effectswill be added
to the master. In the custom animation task pane the effects will then be
greyed out. If you still want to modify them, click on the listarrow next to
the effect and choose copy to text, then you will be able to do with it what
you want, in your case delete the effect on the title.
