Continuous redraws when adding shadow to image

Hi --

I have a PP 2003 presentation and I'm editing a slide.

The slide contains an imported JPG that's essentially a scan of a sheet of
paper.

I can run a black line around this scan without a problem using the line
buttons on the Drawing toolbar.

However, when I attempt to create a shadow effect using the shadow button on
the Drawing toolbar, the image starts to redraw again and again in
rapid-fire succession.

It's redrawing with a shadow, and I can still work with the presentation
even with this image redrawing over and over, although sometimes it takes a
while to get the program's attention. When I display the slide, it displays
properly, shadow and all. But editing the presentation is cumbersome with
this image constantly being erased and redrawn ad infinitum.

If I remove the shadow effect from the image, the redrawing stops.

I have to add about a dozen images to this presentation using the shadow
effect. How do I do this without having these images redraw over and over
while I'm editing the presentation?

notch or two usually fixes it. Post back if the instructions on this link
do not fix the problem.

I've not been blessed with this so can't test it but would it work as well (if
not better) to add a rectangle the size of the image then send it back behind
the image and then group the two? If that doesn't provoke the Redraw-Matic,
it'd give you more control over the shadow (color, transparency, and you could
maybe get some interesting effects with gradients)

Yes, that worked for me with the same problem. However, I think that's
evidence of a bug in PowerPoint. I use many other graphics apps with no
problem and play games with Direct3D and OpenGL with no problem. PowerPoint
has a bug that causes it to redraw certain slides over and over, when in
edit mode.

How do these get reported to MS?
