My computer keeps reconnecting to the Internet from the time XP finishes loading to when I shut down. I keep hitting cancel but it continues to dial the connection. If I let it connect then it transmits data rapidly for a few seconds then stops sending. I have the latest McAfee installed and I used the MyDoom utility to check for that worm. No programs are set to autoupdate. I'm worried I might have an infected machine. I'm thinking about reformatting and reinstalling XP, but would I then be able to use Windows Update

I'm on dial up using a modem and the thought of reinstalling Windows updates is unpleasant.

Jason cogitated deeply and scribbled thusly:

Check your Clock settings - XP has "Synchronise with an internet clock"
ON by default.
