i have xp sp2

the screen goes black and stays like that for about 30 seconds then the pc
reboots and repeats the process continually. i cant get to the log on screen.
i tried starting in safe mode but after i click safe mode and then click
windows xp it does the same thing.
i have avira/windows defender/spysweeper for msn
and my pc was scanned yesterday and was clean.
this just started this morning out of nowhere.
any solution to this problem?

Try installing the xp cd,set pc to boot to xp cd,at xp cd boot menu, press
the r key (recovery console),at recovery,select 1 For C: Press enter for
password,type: Fixboot Agree,type: CHKDSK C: /R Once its thru,type: EXIT
Let xp start, remove cd once in xp.

thanx for responding.
i dont have an xp cd.
its an hp pavilion and it came pre-loaded with xp home.
im not at my pc right now but when the hp scene comes on at the beginning,
it says press f8 for safe mode, press f 10 (if i recall correctly)
for system recovery.
i dont know if that would get me to FIXBOOT or not. ?
