Continously having to use System Restore after Restart

Hi, thanks for taking the time to read this; i'm having serious problems
with my PC and thought you may be able to help me.

Until two weeks ago my computer had been working fine, then I installed
a new sound card and it has been going crazy (i'm certain this is the
cause of the problems); however, the sound card works perfectly and the
drivers and software was all installed properly.

It seems now that whenever I have to restart my computer (i.e.
start>turn off computer>restart, or restart it to complete
uninstallations or to complete virus checks) the computer will load up
properly but before showing the log-on page the screen will stay blue.
This means I then have to hold down the power button on my monitor and
boot up in Safe Mode, then having to use System Restore to the previous
date where everything goes okay again.

The problem is, by having to use System Restore it is undoing all the
work I have done to try to fix the problem, i.e. install new anti-virus
software, as the computer often needs to reboot before it is completed,
thus showing only the blue screen before I log-on, and me having to
hold down the power button and starting all over again..

Whenever the screen allowing me to boot up in Safe Mode, 'Use the most
recent settings that worked' or to 'Start Windows Normally' appears
after restarting the latter two choices just bring up the blue screen
and I can't progress past here.

I have never encountered this before and it is quite worrying me that I
have a serious problem on my system. Please help, thanks.

Hi,

Uninstall the sound card and driver.
Shut down and remove the sound card from the system.
Restart the system and see if it boots.
If not use System Restore to get the system to boot and continue to boot.
If the system returns to booting normally, this would suggest a faulty sound card driver
or hardware is incompatible with your system configuration. You should check with the
sound card manufacturer for compatibility issues.

You could also try moving the sound card to another slot in the system to troubleshoot.

i´d do this:
on the safe mode goto Control Panel-System-Hardware-Device Manager and
disable the sound card.
reboot and and see what happening
it is not all we can do but this can show some way ...

Hi dan3,

Go into your BIOS and make sure that Onboard Audio is set to "disabled" not
"auto". If that does not fix the problem, move your sound card to the PCI
slot farthest from the graphics card. That will reset the IRQs so the
graphics card and sound card do not share the same IRQ.
