I have just upgraded my OS from Windows Me to Windows XP Home w/ SP2. When I
right click on the desktop or in a folder, the hourglass appears for about 20
seconds. Then the screen goes blank and reappears as in a refresh. I have
found one reference to this applying to Win 95 and Win NT 4.0 with a
controlling registry entry; however this has no effect. Any help would be
appreciated. Thanks.

Thank you. I found 4 subkeys under
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\Background\Shellex\ContextMenuHandlers including
the "New" subkey. I deleted the that mentioned context

"NvCplDesktopContext"

That fixed the problem with both Desktop and Folder context menus.
