Contacts not acailable when writing new email

G

Guest

Although my contacts are available on the contact window, when I start a new
email they are not available in the To box.

I tried a micrisoft help doc that told me to delete the Outlook contacts to
reset it but the delete option is greyed out.

I even suspect that the contact list hasn't transferred properly and that
the contacts are being displayed from my mobile phone rather than outlook
itself.

Many thanks

Hi Russ,

My Outlook is 2007.

I've seen that page before..

Outlook Address Book is showing in the Address Book tab of the Account
Settings. However, if I click on 'Change' then there's no folder showing for
it and the Delete button is greyed out.

Also, not sure if this points to anything..on the Contact Folder properties
the "Show this folder as an email address book' is greyed out and not
selectable.

Sounds like you migrated your Outlook data to this installation incorrectly
and now have a corrupt profile. You will need to start over with a brand new
profile and make sure you migrate your data to it correctly this time.

After clicking TO, did you click the Addressbook, arrow up, and click on
Contacts...????

Have you solved your problem yet? I have a similar problem and am unable to
see any email addresses when I click the "To:" box as well. It occurred after
I transferred my Files to a new computer, using the Windows Vista File
Transfer program. Everything was working well on my older laptop (XP /
Outlook 2007), but now have this same problem on my new computer (Vista /
Outlook 2007).

Yes Jim...tis all sorted.

Ended up creating a new profile (Control Panel > Mail > Profiles....Mail
icon's in '32bit Control Panel Items' if you can't see it)

Once the new profile was created then I just used a pen drive to import the
Personal Folders .pst file and manually added the email accounts as they are
IMAP so the emails are saved on the server. I suppose if it's a POP account
then you'd have to do other .pst's of them too.

Anyway, after this .pst import in a new profile everything's just
peachy......for the time being!

Next time, do not import the PST file. Open it. Importing a PST creates a
host of other problems.

First, never import from a PST. It's unnecessary and can lead to mail
profile corruption. Second, you never have to transfer IMAP PSTs. As soon
as you create the account, Outlook will create a new one.

I'm not importing or exporting from a PST but I have this exact issue all of
a sudden. When you click Contacts from the Navigation Pane you can see them
all, but when addressing an email and clicking the TO button - none show
up...

I'm going to try and delete, then recreate the Outlook profile to see if
this helps, but i'm not using a PST so I'm not sure how it will or won't
affect this "fix".

If you have other suggestions, please let me know.

Try right-clicking your Contacts folder, choosing Properties, selecting the
Outlook Address Book tab and enabling "Show this folder as an e-mail Address
Book"
I'm going to try and delete, then recreate the Outlook profile to see

Using an Exchange mailbox then?

I'm in the same boat. When I right click the contacts folder and choose
properties the "show this folder as an e-mail address book" is greyed out.

I have the same problem with Windows Mail. I have my Contacts organized as
directed into folders of like kind, like Family, Business etc. When I
generate a new email and click on TO I can only see those contacts that
remain in the master Contacts field, but none of those I have put into the
folders. The folders do not appear in the To browse window. Why please!

You must not have noticed that you posted to an Outlook group.
Try a Windows Mail group next time.

Hi, I have a similar problem it seems. I imported my addresses from Windows
Live Mail into an Excel CSV file then imported into Outlook from there. The
adresses are all in Contacts, but not alphabetically. When I start a message
& "To", nothing appears. There are no adresses in my Outlook address book. I
have followed this tag as well as other related tags & tried to configure my
Outllook address book, but no luck. I followed the instructions to install
the Outlook Address Book service, did not help either. Have configured,
re-started over a few times, no luck. Please help, thank you.
