Contacts "gone"

Hi,

I have set up my system from scratch. I opened Outlook 2003, found out
where it stored the .pst file, and then copied my backup into this folder
(and deleted the newly created one).

Now I see that I have 2 sets of identical Personal Folders, items seems to
be delivered to both of them. The two of them have a different icon. My
problem is that when I need my contacts from the address book, Outlook
does not find them, only display the message "The address book could not
be displayed. The conatcts folder associated with this address list could
not be opened;..."

Any idea what could have happened and how to resolve?

Cheers, Thorbjorn

Hi
Of course. The surest way I know of to corrupt a profile is to overwrite
a
PST file. The Help files contain explicit instructions on how to migrate
Outlook Data:
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/assistance/HA010771141033.aspx

Create a new profile from scratch and use these instructions to set your
Outlook data file.

Thanks for this advice, Russ. It took me a long way; however one problem
remains. Before following your advice, I had the problem that two
identical Personal Folders were displayed in Outlook; apparantly, they
were both pointing to the same data file. After redirecting delivery to my
restored backup file, I was able to close one of the original folders.
When I try to close the second one, I get the message "The oiperation
failed, an object could not be found".

Any idea how I can get rid of it?

By following the directions I already posted.
Your profile is corrupt beyond repair.
Create a new one.
