I had a hard drive crash while using Windows XP. I replaced the drive and
sent the old one off to recover the data. The data from Outlook Express came
back as extend.dat and outlook.pst.

After sending off the crashed drive I purchased a new HP Pavilion Elite with
Windows Vista Home Premium. All of the files have been copied to the new
computer except the Outlook files (I haven't tried because I don't know how).
Can someone help me figure out how to get the files in Windows Mail on the
new computer from the DVD's that they now reside on?

If it's any help I still have the old computer but it is not connected to
the internet.

Thank you in advance.

Extend.dat and Outlook.pst are NOT from Outlook Express, they are from
Microsoft Office Outlook. Extend.dat contains data for Outlook Extensions
(add-ons) and Outlook.pst is the main email/contacts/calendar/tasks/notes
storage file. To import email data from Outlook.pst into Windows Mail, you
must first install Microsoft Outlook, set it up, and connect Outlook.pst to
it. Outlook must be installed because it is the only application capable of
opening and reading a .PST file. Once you have Outlook.pst attached to
Outlook, you can then use Windows Mail's Import function to import your
email.
