Contacts do not appear in "Show Names from the" list

I'm running Outlook 2003 SP3 and have 100+ names in my Contacts list, most of
which have e-mails. I created and saved a blank Distribution List that I can
see in my Contacts. When I open it and "Select Members", the window pops up
but there are no selections available in the "Show Names from the:" list box.
Consequently, I cannot add names into the distribution list.

What have I done wrong?

Has it ever worked? Did you just move the contacts from one PC to another?
That's what tends to cause such a problem.

Right click the Contacts Folder (use the Folder List View in the Navigation
Pane)
Properties
Address Book
Show it as an Outlook address book.

If that didn't work (ie the checkbox is greyed out, you'll need to configure
an email account first).
