contact list doesn't function

I recently downloaded windows xp and microsoft office
2003. Now my contacts nor anything in Outlook
functions. Isn't the latest technology supposed to work
with Office 2000? It's really caused a lot of problems
not being able to access the contacts in particular. Has
anybody else had this problem? I've tried downloading
fix it patches from microsoft but nothing helps.
 
Please provide details. "Doesn't function" doesn't tell us anything.
