Contact links not working

J

JNC

I'm using Outlook 2003.

When I enter a contact I often 'link' them to another contact so that
I can quickly find related contacts (it's the Contacts... field at the
bottom of the page adjacent to the Catergories field).

When I now try to navigate to one of the contact links by dbl clicking
it, I get the following error:

Cannot perform the requested operation. The command selected is not
valid for the recipient.

The contacts do exist and this used to work!

Any help appreciated.

If they used to work, the most likely explanation is that something happened between then and now. Did you move your .pst file? Export/iimport data?

Thanks for the reply Sue.

Yes, I did fit a new drive to my PC. When I'd installed Outlook I
imported the .pst file.

I'm sure I've done this before and not had this problem.

That explains it. Importing definitely will break all contact links. If you had instead used the original .pst file without importing, they might still be OK (especially if the PST file is in the same location on the hard drive)

Thanks Sue

Presumably this is a permanent problem and the only resolution is to
re-link the respective contacts?

May I ask another question Sue.

I've posted a few requests for help to this forum and you've often
replied.

Do you do this out of the kindness of your heart or are you rewarded
in some way.

I'm assuming MVP means Microsoft Valued Partner?

Many thanks

The main compensation anyone gets for answering posts in any tech discussion forum is the knowledge that someone else may have a better day because of it and (best of all) may feel confident enough to start answer questions that they now know the answers to.
