Contact folder missing, but not all the time

I have several different Contact folders. For instance I have a folder
called "Showcase College Coaches".

All of the sudden, this and 1 or 2 others has disappeared..... however if I
create a new message and click on "TO:" in the drop down window of available
contact folders to look for, these folders are there AND USABLE.

I need to have them show up in the contacts list of folders.

Any idea why they are not and what to do to get them back?

Where are they located? That is part of the problem, I can't find them
except when I create a new message and click on the "TO:" box and then in the
pull down menu the contact folders is listed, HOWEVER on the main Outlook
screen under contacts some of these folders are NOT listed.

You have still failed to tell us which Navigation Pane view in Outlook you
are using to examine your folders. Start by using the "Folder List" view so
you can examine your entire folder hierarchy. I'll bet that if you expand
every folder, you will eventually see these subfolders you created.

Thank you Russ. I found it. When I started searching under every rock, I
opened up the "Folder List" view and found the (2) address folders in the
'deleted items" list. Ok, I am not sure how I did that, but I must have...
Interesting to me however is that those address folders were still visiible
and available from the pull down menu under "TO:" when creating an email.

Now that I spent all this time in my LARGE Contacts area and multiple
address folders, I am willing to 'clean up' this area but am looking for some
insight.

What is the intent of Outlook 07 when it comes to contacts and contacts
folders.

I have, obviously, made 'sub' address books, i.e. address folders to
seperate different groups of contacts. family, work, school, neighbors,
highschool friends, etc.

Would I be better served by keeping them all in the "Outlook Master
Contacts" list and use CATEGORIES to seperate and then create views to break
out seperate list?

It seems that the different address folders has the advantage of when you
create a new email and you are choosing recipients from the "TO:" or "CC:"
dialog, you can use the pull down menu to select different segregated address
folders.

What are your thoughts?

Russ, thanks again. I read the link and took it all in. One thing that
isn't addressed in that article and I was l wondering your input.

I have 1500 contacts spread out over 12 different address folders. I use
quite a few categories also.

If I search for a name in the current folder, or the master address file, it
is quick, but if I select the option under search options to search all
folders, it is REALLY SLOW. It might take 30 seconds to find all the
contacts with "Bill" in it.

What is the best way to search for a contact, often I only remember a first
name etc.

If I am looking at my contact folders on the right side of the screen is a
window to put in a name. there is a pull down options window that I have
selected to search all folders.

I merely put the name in there, for example "sue" and the line will now say,
"All Contact Items (search results)

But this will take 30 40 seconds to do the whole thing, which seems
RIDICULUS for a search. I am sure I have a setting incorrect, but who knows
what.

I had "Instant Search" enabled for a while after installing Office 07, but
it just BOGGED my whole machine down. I have 1 gig ram and a Pentium 4
3.0ghz machine.

Any ideas?

Not sure what the question is. You just said you disabled Instant Search,
right? That is the preferred method for searching in Outlook 2007.

I've found that the "regular instant search" is misnamed. It is any thing but instantwhen looking for a contact in O}utlook 2007! What works, however, is to select Tools/Actions/imstant search/advancedFind/Inandthen select "NameFields only" from the drp down list. Then enter all or aportion of thename you are searching for and results will soon appear in the bottom window. All you need to do then is click on the correct name in the results window and you are "good to go"!I've used this method exclusively with success for many months and am wondering if there isn't some way to tell the OS to use "name only"fields as a defaultparameter during a contacts search.It seems as if this would be obvious to the orcs at <Microsoft..Please let me know if you are aware of such a method

Contact folder missing, but not all the time
I have several different Contact folders. For instance I have a folder
called "Showcase College Coaches".

All of the sudden, this and 1 or 2 others has disappeared..... however if I
create a new message and click on "TO:" in the drop down window of available
contact folders to look for, these folders are there AND USABLE

I need to have them show up in the contacts list of folders.

Any idea why they are not and what to do to get them back?

Where are they located? Are they in the same data store as your default
Contacts folder or are they in a different one? Which version of Outlook?
Is your data store and Exchange mailbox or a PST? This is information you
should always supply when asking a question

That means that your contacts folders are enabled as address books but that
has nothing to do with Navigation Pane views. Which Navigation Pane view
are you using? Where do you think they should show and don't

Where are they located? That is part of the problem, I can't find them
except when I create a new message and click on the "TO:" box and then in the
pull down menu the contact folders is listed, HOWEVER on the main Outlook
screen under contacts some of these folders are NOT listed

in a different one? I am not sure what you mean by "Same data store". The
contact folders were created by me by creating 'new folder' from within my
main "contacts" folder

I hope this helps. The data is still there, because again if I go to create
a new message, click on the "TO:" box to select addresses, in the pull down
menu for "Contacts" ALL the contact folders show up. If I select an address
within one of these folders that is missing on the main Contacts screen, and
right click on it and click no properties, all the data in the record is
there

are using to examine your folders. Start by using the "Folder List" view so
you can examine your entire folder hierarchy. I'll bet that if you expand
every folder, you will eventually see these subfolders you created

Thank you Russ. I found it. When I started searching under every rock, I
opened up the "Folder List" view and found the (2) address folders in the
'deleted items" list. Ok, I am not sure how I did that, but I must have...
Interesting to me however is that those address folders were still visiible
and available from the pull down menu under "TO:" when creating an email.

Now that I spent all this time in my LARGE Contacts area and multiple
address folders, I am willing to 'clean up' this area but am looking for some
insight.

What is the intent of Outlook 07 when it comes to contacts and contacts
folders.

I have, obviously, made 'sub' address books, i.e. address folders to
seperate different groups of contacts. family, work, school, neighbors,
highschool friends, etc.

Would I be better served by keeping them all in the "Outlook Master
Contacts" list and use CATEGORIES to seperate and then create views to break
out seperate list?

It seems that the different address folders has the advantage of when you
create a new email and you are choosing recipients from the "TO:" or "CC:"
dialog, you can use the pull down menu to select different segregated address
folders.

What are your thoughts?

Russ, thanks again. I read the link and took it all in. One thing that
isn't addressed in that article and I was l wondering your input.

I have 1500 contacts spread out over 12 different address folders. I use
quite a few categories also.

If I search for a name in the current folder, or the master address file, it
is quick, but if I select the option under search options to search all
folders, it is REALLY SLOW. It might take 30 seconds to find all the
contacts with "Bill" in it.

What is the best way to search for a contact, often I only remember a first
name etc.

If I am looking at my contact folders on the right side of the screen is a

window to put in a name. there is a pull down options window that I have
selected to search all folders.

I merely put the name in there, for example "sue" and the line will now say,
"All Contact Items (search results)

But this will take 30 40 seconds to do the whole thing, which seems
RIDICULUS for a search. I am sure I have a setting incorrect, but who knows
what.

I had "Instant Search" enabled for a while after installing Office 07, but
it just BOGGED my whole machine down. I have 1 gig ram and a Pentium 4
3.0ghz machine.

Any ideas?

Not sure what the question is.
Not sure what the question is. You just said you disabled Instant Search,
right? That is the preferred method for searching in Outlook 2007.
