I just installed windows 2000 and it appears to work fine except it keeps
rebooting about every hour or so. No one even has to be near it and it
reboots.

Almost always a hardware and or driver issue. Check the hardware
manufacturer's web site for the latest Windows 2000 driver for your device.

Have a look at the Event Viewer (Start / Run / eventvwr.exe). What does
it report in the System log just before and after reboot time?

Have you tried loading Windows in safe mode?

Perhaps you need to repair the installation.

A hardware issue is a possibility, but also consider this may be the work of
a virus. There are numerous viruses out there that cause Windows machines
to constantly and sporadically reboot themselves.

Run a free online virus scan at http://housecall.antivirus.com/
