Constant Message Keeps Popping Up

Bonnie

I also use MS Windows XP Home Edition and Office XP.
Every time I go into Outlook and try to read my messages,
I get this popup message saying "A program is trying to
access e-mail addresses you have stored in Outlook. Do
you want to allow this? If it is unexpected, it may be a
virus and you should choose "NO"." Then it gives options
for allowing access for 1 minute, 2 minutes or 5 minutes.

This is very annoying and also, certain features such as
replying to a message or opening it up fully cannot be
done.

Please Help! Thank You.

Have you scanned your system with anti-virus software with updated virus
defs?

Most likely, that's not the issue. Probably she's using Word as the editor
or has an Outlook-integrated AV scanner or has some other add-in that
doesn't conform to the new standards Outlook expects for well-behaved
add-ins.

I too encounter the same problem and have done the
following to elleviate the problem, with no success at
all!!

1. I have performed a scan using Housecall Antivirus.
It came back with no viruses or virii.
2. I currently use Norton Antivirus and Internet
Security and also have the XP firewall activated.
3. I then referred to MSKB article 310353 and performed
an XP Clean Boot (I use XP Pro) to isolate the
problem. No luck there either!
4. When I unchecked everything and used a Selective
Startup, I also unchecked all services except 2 which
would not let me uncheck. The problem continued to
occur.
5. The 2 lines that would NOT let me uncheck were Remote
Procedure Call (RPC) Locator and Remote Procedure
Call (RPC). They both had a YES in the "Essential"
column.

I can't find anywhere else to go to eliminate this
problem. I am prevented from sending any new mail with
doing a CTL-ALT-DEL and reopening Outlook to send the
mail, because as soon as I click SEND after receiving the
message, Outlook stops responding,

Any help?

Did you install SP3? Outlook 2002 SP3 adds additional properties to the list
of those that are affected by the security features. As a result, one of
your add-ins needs updated to the latest version - antispam add-ins are a
common cause although others are affected by the changes as well. Many
add-ins were updated following the release of Outlook 2003 and should work
with SP3, if not you'll need to contact the vendor for a newer version.

http://www.slipstick.com/outlook/ol2002sp3.htm#problems has a list of
applications known to trigger the warning.

To learn how to program around the new properties (which is needed for the
macros to work with OL2003 too) see http://www.outlookcode.com/d/sec.htm
