Constant mail retreival

Outlook keep retreiving messages even when the program
has been terminated....makes it impossible to retreive
mail remotely. A reboot solves the problem for a day or
two them it starts again. I'm having the same problem on
a win98se machine and a win xp pro machine ...both are
outlook 2000. Any suggestions???
