Constant hard drive access

Something is constantly accessing my hard drive. It happens about once
every second. Indexing is turned off and I can't seem to find any
programs doing it. I ran Disk Monitor and it is writing to the drive
constantly. I booted into safe mode and it still does it. Can't possibly
be good on the drive. Any ideas?
Thanks

Is it for sure your HD, or could it be anything
on the IDE bus? (in other words, you're just
seeing the LED blink which could be any activity
on IDE)

If the latter, it's Autoplay checking your optical drives
for media change. You can turn it off, Google for
directions.

That's what I thought at first so I put a large screwdriver against the
drive and my ear and it is definitely the hard drive doing something.
Disk monitor shows that it is writing to sectors all over the drive. I
wish there was a program or some way to see what is causing it. I just
built this computer 2 months ago and the drive led is on top of the case
(Antec 900) so I don't know if it has been doing this all along or not
because I didn't pay that much attention to the drive led. It doesn't
seem to slow anything down and it runs great but now that I know it is
happening it really bothers me.
