Constant Freezes

WinXp Home+SP4 on Viao laptop
No screensaver, default laptop power config
Recently I'm getting constant freezes, even when only on desktop, nothing
running in background
No hardware/software has been added, or new drivers
I've roled back SP4 but this didnt cure
I use this pc only rarely, then lightly and was perfectly ok untill a couple
of weeks ago
Am a bit perplexed as to how to locate the problem

SP4?

There is no SP4 for Windows XP - we haven't even got to SP2, which is
still in beta. So I'm not sure what you've done. Since you have a
laptop, your machine could be overheating. Overheating can cause the
symptoms you describe. I would call Sony tech support.

Sorry SP4 a typo, I was thinking of my other win sys
Rolled back last major update from dec/jan?
Sys was fine prior to that.
Its not an overheat issue
