computer freezes

i am running windows xp home edition on acer 3680 laptop. computer freezes
even when in screensaver mode. only way to start it again is to remove power
from laptop.what is causing this.ie,virus or hardware

Freezes are almost always hardware problems. I would reinstall the Video
driver.

Go to Start/Run, and type DEVMGMT.MSC , highlight the device, Action menu,
"Uninstall", then restart Windows, to find the device drivers again
automatically.
