Constant firewire disk checking on reboot

Just did a fresh install of XP Pro and it doesn't like my Que! MB firewire
external hard drive. Everytime I reboot, Disk Check 'strongly urges" me to
run it, yet it reports no problems. I can access the drive, but the desktop
icon has a big red question mark on it.
I've had to disconnect it completely, inconvenient as it is my primary
backup disk. There wasn't any issue before the clean install. According to
QPS, no drivers are needed with XP. I'm stumped...can someone help?

Thanks

Holly

Did you try unplug the firewire; power down PC; powerup XP; then plug in
firewire?
