Constant dial-ups stopped

By turning off the auto matic updates I have put an end to the constant
deluge of dial-ups.

Now I have an ongoing barrage of insistent directives to turn the
automatic updates back on - even a permanent icon has been installed on
the task bar, apparently directing this "turn it back on" campaign.

What th.......????????? How do I put a stop to this utter nonsense?

ControlPanel->SecurityCenter
On the left menu the last choice should be "change how SC informs" or
something like that...
Disable (Un-check) all....

I would put money on the fact that in Internet Explorer - Tools -
Internet Options - Connections tab the dial options are either set to
"Dial whenever..." or "Always dial...". If you change this to "Never
dial..." then the prompts will go away.

In "A Fish Named Wanda" one character shoved french fries up another
character's nose. Anything that will allow me to do that, however
figuratively, to IE is so welcome it hurts! :)
