Constant crashing and freezing when using the internet

I just recently got a brand new pc complete with windows xp and it has been
hooked up with our other computer so that we can share the same internet
connection on broadband.

The other computer, despite being older, runs an awful lot faster than this
one does particularly when using the internet. The problems I have are that
the pages in IE are taking a long time to load along with them often freezing
and crashing before they actually do load.

Is there anyway I can make this stop happening and speed up my pc?

hey devocodaphne, first, some people might disagree but you do need at
least 256mb to get any decent performance from xp, especially if you
have "shared" memory for a video card etc. 128 will work of course, but
like you say, your old pc seems faster. Invest in 512 or even 1 gig of
ram. Today you can get that for around 150 bucks.
I actually am not aware of many or any new comps selling with 128 meg of
memory.
As far as your pc crashing while surfing, it could be a number of
reasons. YOur connetions run thru a router connected to a dsl/cable
modem? Check all your settings.
Has this just started happening? Do you run a firewall/anti virus and
spyware applications? If you dont, you should and if you do you will
need at least 512 mb of memory.
Let us know.
