Consider Adding Remote Desktop Hosting For Windows Vista Premium

Hello,

I recently purchase a Dell laptop, which came with Windows XP Pro Media
Center 2005 Edition. This version of windows had the ability to host Remote
Desktop sessions, so that I could sign into my laptop from another computer
on my wireless network at home.

The Vista upgrade I was elligable for from Dell was Windows Vista Home
Priemium. Unfortunately, this version does not contain the ability to host
Remote Desktop sessions. This feature only comes with Vista Business and
Vista Ultimate editions.

I've read several posts on this issue, and have reveiwed the differences
between all the versions of Vista. The only reason I can think of that
Microsoft has choosen to remove the hosting capabilities of Remote Desktop
from all Home editions of Vista is for security reasons.

Granted, having this access open and available for inexperienced home users
that have not setup the proper security for their administrative accounts,
and their wireless networks, could be devistating. But, I do feel this is a
very usefull feature to have, for those experienced home users that have
multiple PCs throughout there house, that have relied on Remote Desktop for
ease of access from one PC.

Since Windows Home Premium Edition is the highest home edition available,
please consider adding this as an optional additive feature for download. It
would satisfy savy home users such as myself, yet give the
security/protection to most home users that don't need it by having home
editions install by default without it.

Thanks,

Dave

I agree, 100%, but I doubt it will happen. I don't think, however, that it's
due to security concerns. I think it's more along the line of a feature that
they didn't anticipate would be that useful in a home network.

Does Netmeeting 3 install on Vista?

Netmeeting runs on all previous editions of windows and has Remote Desktop
and Remote Assistance (called Application Sharing and you share the Desktop)
in addition to chat and audio and video conferencing.

The equivelent program in Vista is Windows Meeting Place. I can't use this
program because it is faulty and won't run unless it can work so I can't
look at it unless I can find a conference. So I can't choose Help. I read in
some pathetic drivel in Help it has the application sharing features of
Netmeeting. I wasted time typing in the main Help once.

Maybe it can do remote desktop too or something like it.

Remember, anything MS says is a new feature is usually a very old feature
moved from obscurity of the depths of the OS to in your face. Netmeeting is
installed on XP - type conf in Start Run to start it. This used to be, and
the MS Servers that allowed users to find each also were a very large
cybersex operation. MS got embarrassed at how much sex they were promoting.

Other not new, new features in Windows is Virtualisation. Run As
Administrator (but UAC removes the ability to run a program in a sandbox by
ticking a box - one has to write a program).

Guys over at www.thegreenbutton.com have already solved this one.
Check out this thread for how to add RDP concurrent logins and RDP to
all versions of Vista including Home Premium.

http://thegreenbutton.com/forums/thread/156341.aspx

Read the whole thread to see how this evolved and other users helped
out buy automating the steps necessary. Then someone figured out how
to add to Home Premium.

Jump to the end of the TGB thread for a link to the latest efforts:

This has the batch files that make this all easy including adding RDP
to Vista Home versions.
