Connectivity Issues

HI,

I am repairing a computer (XP home) with spyware and virus infections.
I have already removed all the malware with several know apps.
I have repaired Windows Winsock LSP.
All tcp/ip settings are to auto IP/DNS, no firewall is installed or enabled.

When booting on safe-mode, all apps connect to the internet with no problem.
But when booting in normal mode the only thing that can access the internet
is Internet Explorer. All other programs cannot access the internet.

I need some help!

Thank you

Or try clean boot as below post.

Troubleshooting Vista with clean bootHow to run Windows OS with a clean ....How to run Windows OS with a clean boot ... when you cannot determine the cause of the issue, you may run Windows Safe ...

The problem is possibly still in the LSP / Winsock. If you read through various
threads in this forum, you'll discover that there are 5 or 6 solutions to
various LSP / Winsock problems. Depending upon YOUR problem, you will need one
or more, and running the others, like "Winsock LSP" (??) won't help. You may
even have to run each tool twice.

Thank you Chuck and Robert,

Both of your replies are at the level of expertise I was expecting and it's
good infromation worth keeping for future similar cases.

The problem was the customer had installed Norton IS 2006 over Norton IS
2004, which along with the malware infestation created all sorts of problems.

After removing both versions of the software everything went back to normal.

Once again, thank you.

That's another well known cause here - excessive security. Thanks for updating
the thread.
