ConnectionManag.exe has generated errors and will...

I have been unable to use any form of Dial-Up networking
for a few weeks now, although my DSL and LAN Internet
access still work.

I have SBC Yahoo DSL, which comes with a dial-up manager
shell. This worked until recently, when I started getting
this error:

"ConnectionManag.exe has generated errors and will be
closed by Windows....." the progam then ends.

When I start dial-up connections in Windows, the error
is, "explorer.exe has generated erros and will be closed
by Windows..." However, the system stil operates after
this event.

This began while editing a dial-up rule in the SBC shell,
shortly after downloading a Windows Update. I have since
done the following:

Removed and reinstalled the SBC Yahoo software.
Done a repair of Windows 2000 through the Recovery Console.

Internet Explorer and Windows Explorer still run.

I don't know where to look in the Registry for possibly
corrupted keys and so haven't tried.

The Knowledge base seems to have nothing on point. I've
spent about three hours on the phone with Microsoft Tech
Support.

Does anyone have any ideas?

"...shortly after downloading a Windows Update."

Have you tried to re-apply your latest service pack? Which one are you
running?
If the re-apply of SP2 or SP3 doesn't fix, try a "dirty" install (run Setup
over your current Windows install)
This doesn't change installed apps or docs. Then apply service pack.

I got to Service Pack 4, which locks up Internet Explorer so that I
can't add updates anymore. I believe the failure is in the Yahoo!
chat client, which is an Explorer Bar; Add/Remore programs does not
allow me to uninstall the bar.

I have a recovery disk for my computer (Dell C840 running Win2000)
that does not seem to allow a dirty install.

I 'fear' service packs until they are "proven" to be ok - that's why I
recommended SP2 or SP3.
4 is just too new for me to trust!
