When I first boot up to make a connection I have to hit Tools, Internet
Options, and Connections tab and check "Dial whenever a network connection is
not present". I then hit Apply and OK and I can then connect. As soon as
the PC is switched off or rebooted, it resets it's self to "Never dial a
connection"
Any thoughts out there please?

Check the box that says "Always dial my default connection" and then hit the
Apply button and then OK.

Thanks Kevin; should have said that I've tried that and it still defaults to
the never dial a connection setting.

A third party program is resetting your dial up connection. Do a complete
inventory of anything that is internet related or which may require a
connection and disable all.

This is known to happen if you are using Norton Anti-Virus with the
Auto-Protect turned on. If this applies to you, turn off the Auto-protect
and set it to scan program files only.
