Connection with Windows XP Professiaonal

P

Peter

I am using a Windows XP professional desktop and just borrowed a Vista Home
Basic notebook from a friend.

I would like to copy a huge file across from the XP to the notebook.

I have attempted to connect both machines with a network cable. From XP, I
am able to see Vista but not vice versa. Moreover, I am not able to connect
to Vista though I have tried the valid username and password for
Administrator.

Your help is sought.

If you are connecting directly from one machine to the other, you need
to use a crossover ethernet cable, not the normal straight-through
cable. If this is a one-off situation, you'd be better off just burning
the "huge file" to DVD and transfering it that way instead of going
through the trouble of setting up a network. Or you could pull the
laptop's drive and put it in a USB drive enclosure and attach to the
desktop. Since you didn't tell us how big the "huge file" is, I can't
guess which suggestion is better for you.
