Networking Laptop -> Desktop

B

Ben Ramsay

Setup Profile
Windows Vista Basic on both
Norton 360 on both
Connection method required is a LAN connection with internet sharing.
Previous os was Windows XP Professional on both with same setup

My issue is trying to setup the laptop to access the desktop and vice versa,
I have been able to share the network on both sucessfully. My problem arises
when i attempt to access a folder, windows return a permnission required
message or one to that effect.

I relise Windows Vista is diffrent than Windows XP as i used the procedure
for Xp to share internet connections on Vista. I basically have the same
software as before, so what am i diong wrong. I would like to hae a network
as stated above so that i can transfer data between the two

Is there a step by stem guide, other than the one in help as it dose not
provide very much information I do admit that I am new to Vista so I could
be doing something wrong.

Thankyou in advance

Ben,

In file sharing, Windows Vista is much like Windows XP, in that it has a
multitude of settings which give it versatility to fit many different network
scenarios.

Is the other computer XP Pro with Simple File Sharing, with Advanced File
Sharing and only using Guest authentication, or AFS with a non-Guest account?
You should decide that, then setup the Vista computer similarly.

I have network three computers together (Office, Family Room and a Laptop.
All the icons show in the network screen on all of the computers. My office
computer will let me into the family room computer but not into my laptop. My
laptop will let me into the family room but not into my office. My family
will not let me into the office or the laptop. Don't know much about
computers, what do I do? Office & Family Room are both running Windows XP and
my Laptop is running Vista.

1. Can they ping each other by IP?
2. Make sure all computers have been enabled.
3. Make sure no firewall or any security software block sharing.
