Connection to Microsoft Exchange Unavailable

Operating system is Windows Vista Business Service Pack 1
Using Microsoft Office 2007 Professional
Connecting to server on Cisco VPN Client 5.0.04.0300
Sony Vaio laptop

When in the office and connected wirelessly to Workgroup, Outlook connects
to Microsoft exchange with no problems whatsoever.

When trying to connect to Microsoft Exchange remotely, it is impossible.

I have connected to the server with the VPN client and can access files on
the server and even Remote Connect to the server itself, but when Outlook is
opened it does not see Microsoft Exchange.

I have tried closing Outlook and gone to Control Panel/User
Accounts/Mail/E-mail Accounts and gone to user name and check name and it
tells me: "The action cannot be completed. The connection to Microsoft
Exchange is unavailable. Outlook must be online or connected to complete this
action."

They are the exact same settings that allow it to work when it is connected
at the office.

My own laptop which is running on Windows XP SP3 has linked up my email
account without a single problem.

What can I do?

complain to the corporate Einsteins who decided to go with Vista and Office

Corporate Einsteins are not the problem. The problem is that it seems to be
the standard for computer manufacturers/providers to sell you a computer with
this Vist cr@p pre-installed!!
I have not had too much of an issue with Office 2007, but Vista is a

Many (most?) vendors allow you to specify Windows XP if you're ordering the
PCs for a company.
