connection to internet iva network

I have set up a network for my girlfriend so she can use
her house internet connection on her new computer. The
host used to have windows ME(ewwwwww!) now changed it to
XP myself. The modem is pluged into the computer and then
the router pluged into the computer using the computer as
the gateway for the internet.They were not botherd about
having to have the host computer on all the time for the
internet to work. I have everything working.Internet on
host.Network connection.They can both see eachother on
the workgroup, both ping eachother and exchange files.

The client computer has two connections local 1 and
internet 1 which is sending and reciving data.However I
can`t bring up a internet page.It is obtaining its
settings from DHCP. I dont no weather I might need to
configure some DNS as I have not trid ping`in an address
yet. e.g http://212.58.224.86/ (www.bbc.co.uk) and I dont
no unless I try this which I havent yet. If this works
and i no thats what I have to change.(tho where do I get
it from? ISP?) Apart from that are there any other things
that could be wrong. tried auto dectect settings in IE
and that dont work.

any help would be greatful

Since the client PC connects to the 'net via the host PC, then
the host is the DHCP server and the source of the client's IPA.
Set the client PC's DNS server to also be the IPA of the host.

I have no idea why you have two network connections on your
client PC, but that is likely to cause problems. Keep the
connection that goes to your host PC, and remove the other.
