Hey,

When I connect to the internet, it takes whatever I open up (whether it be
ie6 or any application (eg Microsoft Word)) about 5 minutes to load. Once it
loads, then everything is fine and nothing has a problem loading again
(including ie6) until the next time I connect.

The only new application I have is Google Desktop but the only item it uses
the internet for is the weather. My sister has a much older computer and
also uses Google Desktop. Hers goes and gets the news AND weather and she
has dial up but doesn't have this delay.

Any help would be great. Thanks!

If this was the only change (installation), then uninstall the "Google
Desktop". Otherwise, remove the "TCP/IP Version 6" protocoll if applies.

I'm sorry but could I please have instructions on how to remove TCP/IP
Version 6 and how do I know if it applies?

Thanks!

Did you get rid of the Google desktop thing yet vie start>settings>control
panel>add remove programs?

If not do that first and you likely not have to worry about IPV6 anyway.

Provided that the "Google Desktop" has been removed as suggested:
Control Panel > Network Connections > select your adapter > right
click > Properties > Microsoft TCP/IP Version 6" > untick or remove
if present. Restart whwn done.

I am quite surprised that Google software seems to cause a lot of problems.

It does, Charlie. I know - you wouldn't expect problems with it but I've
seen it. The Google Toolbar and Picasa are great, but I always suggest
uninstalling the Desktop. One day my son told me he could no longer run any
MS Office programs on his school laptop. The only change was that he had
installed Google Desktop. So I uninstalled it and voila! MS Office behaved
perfectly again.

Thanks to all who replied. What I ended up doing was just to remove the
weather plugin so it now doesn't need to go out to the ether at all and
everything's fine...... so far (lol).

I like the fact that my photos on my hard drive are randomly scrolled
through and shown. I also like the calculator, timer and quick lock plugins
so I'll keep it going for now and see what happens.

Thanks again!

Well, (sigh!),

Youse were right. I've just had to uninstall Google Desktop. The problem
simply wouldn't go away. Bugger!

Well, well. Another problem with the Google Desktop. Thanks for taking
the time to confirm this.

That's fine now you know it might be a future suspect.

As I said earlier I am surprised that Google software (Or the Yahoo toolbar
even) can cause problems, I would expect better from both companies. It
makes me suspect that IE is best left without any add ons. I would think
Google and Yahoo both have capable programmers so this leaves the suspicion
that "Something" just doesn't like IE interfered with :)
