I have new computor w/Vista (not impressed w/it). I have no problems
connecting to my server, but when I open Windows Mail, it sometimes takes
over an hour to make a successful connection. I keep getting the 'pop3server
not responding, do you want to wait 60 seconds for next try?' message. I
sometimes close, open, close, open, windows mail a few times, before it will
finally make a connection to send and receive mail. Got any suggestions?

We often need an exact quote of an error message to offer much help.
That doesn't look like one. You may want to click on the error message
and see if you can copy it.

That message, however, suggests that you haven't entered the correct server
name, in which case most email servers won't work at all. You may need to
ask your email provider (who is probably also your internet provider) for
their instructions for setting up to use their email servers. If they
haven't
written instructions for Windows Mail yet, their instructions for Outlook
Express should also work under Windows Mail as long as they don't call
for the HTTP protocol. The instructions are probably somewhere on their
web site. Or, you could tell us who your email provider is and see if
anyone
here already knows where to find the instructions.

If it's really a connection problem, though, you should report it to your
internet provider so they can try to fix it.

Email scanning should be turned off in any anti-virus. Also exclude EML
files from the scan. It provides no
protection not provided by the regular resident protection.
Besides that, McAfee and Norton are not compatible with Windows Mail and
Outlook Express and should be uninstalled. The latest version of Trend's
anti-virus seems to be causing problems too.
