Connection problems of a windows XP Pro machine to a windows 2000 workgroup

We have a small office network, based around 6 computers
connected as a workgroup based LAN. The workgroup
computer is a windows 2000 Pro. 2 of the machines which
connect to the workgroup are Windows XP Pro machines.
Both these machines are very slow (circa 5 mins) to
connect to any shared network drive. There are no
problems for the other machines (all Windows 2000 Pro) to
connect.

Any ideas?

I would check the hardware settings such as NIC and switch/hub.
