I just received my HP Pavilion with XP-home already installed, plus a lot of
other extra things. I have had my old computer on Win98se . I also have
cable modem connection to the internet "comcast'.

I have not had any success in connecting my HP to the internet. I have a
Linksys hub that I use to connect to the cable modem and then to the
internet. What do I have to do to make the new computer connect to the
internet? Any help would be appreciated.

Carl

Are you trying to connect both computers to the hub at the same time? If so, you'll probably need to contact your ISP to have additional IP addresses assigned to your account. A router appears to the cable company like a computer, a hub does not, and most ISP's use the MAC address of the Ethernet Adapter to determine whether or not the computer is authorized to use their network.

No, I want the new computer with XP to be connected to the internet.

Again, your new computer has a different ethernet card, with its own unique MAC address. You need to contact your ISP and tell them that you need to have them register the new MAC address.

I got it!!

Thanks
Carl

Did you call comcast and give them the number to your router?? Is the
router a new part of what you hooked up?? They need the router information
to allow the signal to pass through.
