Connecting to my clients using remote Desktop

I can't seem to get this to work on any of my clients. I just downloaded the
RD for web connect. I went to the clients computer and added my user and I
think I got the correct IP address. But when I type that into RD connection
either locally or on the web, it wont let me onto my clients computer. I am
not a computer guru, so I need some help for what to look for. Thanks!

You haven't told us:

1. What operating system you and your client are running;
2. How your client connects to the Internet (router? directly through a
cable/DSL modem?);
3. What you are trying to accomplish (remote control?).

I am using XP Home Version and he is using XP Professional. He connects
using DSL. I am want to use this instead of GoToMypc.com. I want to be able
to use Quickbooks at the same time he is during the day.

You'll be better off using a program like pcAnywhere (commercial) or
UltraVNC. In addition, since this financial data, you should set up a VPN.

You'll need to assign a static IP address to your client's machine if he
uses a router and open the correct ports in the router.

This also assumes that he has purchased the version of QuickBooks that
allows more than one person to work on it at the same time.
