connecting to a network

When I log into my XP workstation it doesn't connect me to the server. I have to go to my computer and click on the mapped drive and enter the password again. Is it possible to have the login get me in the workstation and the server?
 
I believe MS decided to do it this way for security reasons. I've not seen a
work around that connects mapped network drives automatically but I believe
it is possible to stop the annoying pop-up.
