Connecting SoundBlaster Live! Drive to Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe

Hi all,

I am looking for information on connecting a Live! Drive to the A7N8X-E
Deluxe MoBo. It is a shame to not use the on board audio for the MoBo, but I
use the front panel of the Live! Drive all of the time, to plug in a guitar
(1/4" plug) and controlling volume, headphones, etc...

Is there any way you know of which I can use this without disabling onboard
audio? Can I use the sound blaster in tandem with the on board audio??

A SBLive works fine alongside the A7N8X onboard sound, I've had mine set up
this way to try and decide which sounds better.. but I think the original
poster was hoping to be able to use the front mounted inputs with the
onboard audio. I don't know how the Live Drive is set up, but if you can
get at the lines for those inputs before they go through any additional
circuitry, and you wire up a connector to fit the "front panel audio"
connector on the motherboard, I would think you could make it work. As for
the remote receiver and whatever features the live drive has, you might have
a harder time getting that figured out, but one thing at a time! :)

Hope this helps...

I've recently installed the A7N8X-X & thought that I'd hold back
installing my existing SB1024Live until I'd checked out the on-board
sound (I didn't think the two could be active at the same time i.e.
thought it was one or the other - see JM's post).

The next step would be to buy the Asus J-panel (fits into a front
5.25" bay) with the line in/out & USB sockets.

However, I keep getting staccato interference on sound so I'm
seriously thinking of disabling the on-board sound & re-installing the
SB. However, unlike you, I haven't got the break out box (& can't buy
one now) as I'm getting fed up with having to plug my guitar into the
rear sockets :-((
