connecting new users to the MDW.

I currently have a database on a network drive. There is
also a system.mdw file for this database on the same
drive. When I connect a new user to the database, I use
the Workgroup Administrator to point to the mdw file on
the network drive.

WHy is it that if I don't point to the MDW file I created
(and leave it pointed to the default) the new user is not
prompted for a password at all and has full admin
privileges?

Users are, by default, joined to the system.mdw file, on their hard drives,
that ships with MS Access. They are, thus, logged on as the Admin user and,
because the Admin user's password in that .mdw file is blank, they are not
prompted for the log on screen. If they are able to open the database then
you have not properly secured the database. You need to read through the
Security FAQ and see what steps you may have missed in the process. There is
a link to it on the Security page of my website.
