Connecting Microsoft Outlook to a Network Server

I have used Microsoft Outlook 2002 for the past couple year with my Hotmail,
MSN, Sprintpcs, SBCyahoo, and gmail account to retreive all my email accounts
with no problems. I would say that I became a good user. Recently I bought a
brand new HP Pavilion ZD8000 laptop with the complete Microsoft Office
solution which included Microsoft Outlook 2003 with Business Contact Manager.
I was able to take my existing laptop with Outlook 2002 and retype and enter
all my existing Outlook settings into my new laptop with Outlook and get it
all setup.

Now here is where the change has occured. I have recently decided to start a
new job with a new company and I am going to use my new computer with Outlook
2003 Business Contact manager. One of the goals is that we will want to hook
my laptop up to the companies server and get my company email system to load
my company emails to my Microsoft Outlook 2003 with Business contact manager.

My question is how will I go about doing this? In the past it was simple for
me to add a pop email account or a web account to my outlook system and I
don't want to screw up any of my settings that I have and I definetly don't
want to loose any of my archived emails that I have in specified folders...

Can someone let me know if this can even be done. Any assistance is greatly
appreciated. I can be reached at (e-mail address removed)

Thank you,

Alot of this depends on the mail system you will be connecting to at your new
job. You can set Outlook 2003 to use both a Exchange and POP3 / SMTP setup
in one outlook profile though.

Hi Transam388,

I have two weeks before I start with the new company. Are there some
specific questions that you can provided to me that I could cut and paste
into an email to get help with this?

For the most part you already sound like you are familiar with this so it
should not be to bad for you. I would just see what the new companies
primary email system is. If it is an Exchange server then this will be
fairly simple. You would go through the normal new outlook profile steps and
select Microsoft Exchange and then next. It will ask the name of the
Exchange server and your email alias. Once you have that set up you can go
to tools and Email Accounts in outlook. Select the view / change existing
accounts. Now you will see the Microsoft Exchange server and a couple of
buttons to the right. Select ADD. This is where you would select POP3 to
set up your other email account. When Outlook checks for mail it will use
the Exchange server first and then try connecting to your POP3 server after.
That is about it.

Transam388,

I know they all use Microsoft Outlook 2003. So it sounds like you said where
I will be able to configure the new "Work" email account to my existing
program.

My Next Question is since this email account will most likely be a network
account it will only work when I am connected to the network and if I am at
home and not connected to the network then I when I refresh the my Outlook
all my Pop and web accounts will update and that "work" email account should
fail. Is this correct?

Additionally, I assume that since this will be a network account that the
emails in the inbasket will be stored on the network server ... How do I
replicate them for offline use/viewing?

Lastly, like I originally stated I have Microsoft Outlook with Business
Contact Manager. Currenlty, all my pop, and web email accounts contacts are
stored in the regular contact list. If I want to use Business Contact Manager
will I be required to type in every entry once or is there a way once I
install this new email account to sych up their contact directory with my
Business Contact Manager area?

As always thanks,
GFS
