Synchronising Outlook between pc & laptop

At present I have Outlook 2003 (Office Professional) on my pc fronting my
gmail account. I've just purchased a laptop with office 2007 home & student
(no Outlook).
What I think I want to do is install the H&S 2007 on the pc, and upgrade the
2003 Professional to 2007 to get the Contact Manager on Oulook 2007 and
install on the laptop - for business use.

But I would still like to keep a synchronised copy of my mail, and be able
to use Outlook 2007 on my pc.

Is this feasible (if so how) or is there a better way?

Thanks H&S were not pre-installed - I have the discs and so I hope I should
be able to un-install. Not too sure about if I have the discs for
Professional 2003 tho - it was a Dell factory custom build.

Thanks for the IMAP info I will have to investigate as I know nothing about
IMAP at present.

If Office was supplied by Dell you cannot transfer Office to a new PC, only
retail versions can be transfered to a new PC (by installing from cd)
What you see in an Imap account will be the same on all PC's, or if logging
on to gmail web access
The imap setup installs/ creates a specific imap data file, its not the same
as the outlook default pop data file
