connecting cell phone to pc

B

boy

Hi,

I have Samsung cell phone with camera. I also have USB cable to
connect it to PC. But my PC can only charge my cell, it does not
recognize it otherwise. Is there any way to drop photos directly from
my cell to PC.....?

I assume my Service Provider want me to waste my precious minutes
emailing my photos to myself.

Thanks, boyboyds.

Thank you SpamCop and Jinxi,

.......but Samsung has no software for my brand T301g and I do not know
how to take memory card out.
This is not like a digital camera where you just pop mem card out.
Where do I find mem card ....? Is it sealed inside....?

I gess I am stuck with it :(

I have a Samsung Messager. I could never get their software to work
reliably, so I ended up just doing file transfers via Bluetooth. That
has been 100% reliable . . . slow but reliable <LOL>.

It should be notes that several cell signal providers do "turn off"
features of their offered phones so as to force users to use their
high-prices cell signals for these transfers. I reside in Canada and
Bell Mobility is actively doing this "laming" of their cell phones.

I think the term you want is "crippling", or "hobbling".

Verizon Wireless does the same thing here in the States. In the past,
I've been able to find "mods" on the Internet to make my phone more
truly mine, but such tools aren't available for every phone.

Are you certain that the phone even has USB capabilities? Just because it
has a USB port that doesn't mean the phone has USB capabilities in it's
software. I have a Motorola V3 which does have USB features, and my Mom has
a Motorola W376 which has a USB port but no USB capabilities.

Well, I do need some education here. Isn't Bluetooth a device that
goes around you ear....? How do you use it to transfer data to PC....?
By the way my phone does have Bluetooth capability.

Thanks, boyboyds.

Yes and it can also be a means to link up your pc to your mouse, a
keyboard, or any number of other devices. In a sense it's kind of like
a wireless USB port. I've even seen a cordless telephone set that will
link to your Bluetooth enabled cellphone and allow you to make calls
through the cellphone without having a land line connected to the phone.
Here's a link to the page for that:

There's even a Bluetooth enabled CB radio:

So Google "BLuetooth Technology" and see what comes up...

Bluetooth is a short-range wireless communication technology. It can be
used to create what's called a "Personal Area Network" ("personal" being
smaller than "local").

Here is a datasheet for your phone.

http://www.phonearena.com/htmls/Samsung-SGH-T301G-phone-pa_3276.html

Bluetooth Version 2.0

Profiles Headset (HSP)
Handsfree (HFP)
Generic Access (GAP)
Serial Port (SPP)
Service Discovery Application (SDAP)
Serial Data Port (SDP)

You can "decode" what the Bluetooth profiles do, here.
I suspect not all the profiles are listed here, but this
is a start.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bluetooth_profiles

The SPP is the profile that would support the equivalent
of a serial port. But neither the Samsung "PC Studio" application
nor the bitpim.org software, mention your phone model. You
need software to run, once communications is established,
to be able to do anything. mobileaction.com doesn't seem
to support the phone either.

"Pairing" the phone with the computer is only the first step.
Maybe, you'll be able to get a list of profiles
from the phone, once it is paired.

But after that step, you need an application that can talk
the AT command set or something similar, to actually query
the phone. Bitpim.org is some free software for CDMA
phones, but your phone is GSM. You could try it anyway, and
see if it detects something over SPP. Does GSM use the
same AT (modem-like) commands ? Or does it use some other
mechanism. If nobody makes software for your phone,
this could be a challenging project. Some software has
to run on top of the protocol stack you're trying to build
with the Bluetooth dongle.

Thank you Paul,

But I am still out of luck.

1. Purchased Bluetooth PC adapter (Bluetooth Dongle USB 2.0 Adapter,
Ultra Slim).
2. Pluged it in, PC recognized it immediately, nice clear interface.
3. Set my phone's Bluetooth option to "ON".
4. Set my phone to search for a Bluetooth device - nothing is found.
5. Set my PC to search for a Bluetooth device - nothing is found.

Should I give up...?

There are various pairing scenarios here.

http://www.bluetooth.com/Bluetooth/Products/Devices/Generic_Pairing_Instructions.htm

Since you found the phone's Bluetooth control, that
should be the key to seeing "something" happen.

Even if you did manage to pair with the phone, I expect
what you'd end up with, is a new virtual serial port. Then,
you'd need phone management software to talk via the
new virtual serial port. Otherwise, the profiles available
might support headphone audio, and I don't know if the computer
end can make use of that or not.

If I managed to pair the phone, and saw a virtual serial port
on the host computer, then I might download the free
bitpim software, and give it a try. But if nothing
is happening at the hardware level, you're out of luck.
