Connecting ADP to SQL server

S

Steve S

Can someone tell me what versions of SQL can connect to an ACCESS 2003 data
project?
Specifically, can a 2003 adp connect to a sql version newer than 2000?
Thanks for your help,

There are still a lot of rumours and misinformation out there, but as I
understand it, a 2003 ADP will be able to connect to SQL Server 2005 for
run-time stuff, but may not have full development functionality. The rumour
is that Microsoft has flip-flopped on their recommendation (what else is
new?) and is supposedly recommending that you go back to using MDB's for SQL
Server 2005 and beyond.

So far, everything I've heard about ADPs & SQL Server 2005 has all been from
people in forums such as this, though - I've yet to see an official
Microsoft site that says anything one way or the other.

I heard that there is a new virus that is soooooo bad with mdb that
they're changing their plans and now going to start FORCING people to
convert to ADP.

it's like some security hole in MDB that is such a big deal.. i think
that it's finally a move in the right direction.

my uncle works for some access consulting company; and he told me that
ms is goign to release a SQL 2005 toolkit for ADP that will make
everything work just as expected.

i mean.. SQL Server based crosstab query wizard; anyone??

If you take a close look on who exactly the person *is*
making a comment about Access & SQL2005 you may be able
to make a well educated guess about what's any official
website is going to say as soon as it is online.

I don't expect any offical information on this matter
before SQL2005 is finally RTM.

hey i thought that it's going to be called SQL 2006... lol

i just wish these MS idiots wouldn't be so super-secret squirrel.

i mean.. this shit is basic. shit worked between sql 7 and sql 2000.

MAKE IT HAPPEN MS. GIVE ADP WINGS.. CROSSTAB QUERY WIZARD
i mean.. do you guys want SQL 2005 to take off??

then give us a SQL-based crosstab query wizard

I feel your langauge is not quite appropriate!

They aren't! There's plenty of infomation available on SQL2005,
but as there is no final release yet and Access ADP design time
features are certainly not the key selling point in SQL-Server
there is no point in information that is not yet final.

I've seen *some* postings from people who seem to work for Microsoft, but I
have no proof that they actually do, or even if they do, that they work in
an area related to SQL Server 2005. So until I see it somewhere on
microsoft.com (or msdn.com, or whatever), I consider it hearsay.

Phillip.

If Microsoft isn't going to support ACCESS 2003 in SQL 2005 they need
to come out and say that in plain friggin english.

They ARE being super-secret squirrel.

And it is ridiculous that they dont COMMUNICATE these things far in the
future.

For starters-- ADP is the best IDE for writign SPROCS anywhere in the
world.

I mean-- I'm sure it's more powerful than SQL 2005.

so what they're doing is giving us LESS functionality and trying to
charge us money for it?

I consider it hearsay also.. and i just think that it's ridiculous that
you guys MAKE BUSINESS DECISIONS BASED ON RUMORS.

I mean-- I heard that MS is going to make Excel open source.
I heard that MS Project is goign to be written using an ADP.

I heard that Sharepoint isn't fast enough to do a damn thing.

I heard that Dreamweaver is going to be able to write DAPs.

I heard that infopath is going to an optional component in MS Access.

I heard that MS is buying Oracle.

I heard that Oracle is buying Sun.

I heard that MS isn't taking the db industry seriously-- so i guess
we'll all be stuck with TOAD and crap like that.
I mean-- COME ON MICROSOFT

START COMMUNICATION WITH THE ACCESS DEVELOPER COMMUNITY.
You current practice of 'telling rumors to mvps who then leak it to
their friends' is not workign

because the MVPs are a bunch of communist losers that embrace obsolete
MDB technology.

I want Microsoft to take ADP seriously-- it is the best platform in the
world.

Anyone that tells you otherwise is too stupid to learn real SQL.

I just wish that MS would be more forthcoming. I mean.. they do things
like 'Access 2000 needs a special patch to work with SQL 2000'
i mean-- they're obviously not in charge of their own destiny; and
they're obviously run by a bunch of

C++ fairies
Excel dorks
MDB losers

come on microsoft time to wake up and start pushing ADP.

Oracle Forms and Oracle Reports-- we dont need WEBBASED CRAP

we need simple data-bound forms and reports. To be able to report on
OLAP, OLTP data.

Crystal Reports has done it for years. Why can't Microsoft wake up?

Why do you guys still cling to obsolete architectures??
