Connected Icon not in Taskbar

Recently installed XP Pro on a computer...all went fine , however now when i go to launch Netscape / Internet Explorer ..any internet connection  .....once the connection is made
( dial-up ) there are no " little flashing computers" down in the system tray .I have searched high & low  , when the dial up connects it appears to ZIP off to the taskbar...but nothing there .Any help greatly appreciated

In IE, Tools, Internet Options, Connections tab, Settings button, Properties
button, check Show icon....

I have the show icon option checked in the properties, but it still does not show up!
